a5c7b9f00b Prelude to Axanar is an independent project that discusses the war between the Federation and the Klingon Empire leading up to the Battle of Axanar. Figures from both sides discuss how the war began, how the Klingons were better prepared for war, how the Federation built their Starfleet, and how the war was fought from both the Federation and Klingon views. Robert April discusses building the USS Enterprise, Admiral Ramirez discusses building the Starfleet, Garth of Izar discusses his rise to fame, and the Klingon supreme warlord Kharn gives the Klingon view of the war. Various retired leaders discuss their experiences of the Four Years War, a war between the Federation and the Klingons, and the build up to a battle at Axanar that caused a major turning point in the war. Prelude to Axanar- Shows what can be done when you get professionals in front and behind the camera donating their time and skill to something they care about.

The clever documentary style is one example of how thought went into this. Old fans respond to the care shown to past episodes-yet its documentary style can make some one new to Star trek join in.

Star Trek with its history of 5 TV series and 11+ Feature Films has had ups and downs. Recently with the 2 new films -Star Trek has reached larger audiences But in my opinion these films were more a blockbuster money making effort. That's fine for some, for myself I would prefer more care with story and exploring the trek universe.

With Prelude to Axanar, that's what you get -you can tell those making it are fans of Star Trek that's very important. The fans new and old respond to that. Its the fact they are invested in making a professional production (for no profit)that is exploring the rich history of Star Trek that resonates.

The other great thing is its all history to explain the origins of one character in the Original Series. Just think how many other great stories are waiting to be revealed.

And this is just a prelude! The Full feature awaits and look at the kick starter to see how people are eager for that. I found out about "Axanar" and the "Prelude To Axanar" about a year ago and it inspired me then and continues to do so. This is fan- made Star Trek unlike any other. Most all of the people involved are professional film production people who love Star Trek and it shines from every pore. The idea of having a trailer to a war movie done in the format of a history documentary is brilliant! The inspiration was that just hearing the details of the production, of which there is an abundance, inspired me to donate, for the first time, to a kickstarter project. The Prelude To Axanar was released at San Diego Comicon 2014, which I could not attend, but it was then released on-linepromised. It was and is glorious! It then inspired me to, for the first time, participate in DragonCon in Atlanta, where I was inspired to give of my time and spend most of three days manning a table with new-found friends, helping to promote this amazing short film. If you have ever been a fan of Sci-Fi or Star Trek or though it might be interesting, I can think of no better 20 minute introduction to the possibilities of the genre than this short film.
